Books Editorial Board Member Position Description

Members of the ÀÖ²©´«Ã½Publications Books Editorial Board work collaboratively with the Director of Publications and Acquisitions Editor to review book proposals, assist with author recruitment, and facilitate review of submitted manuscripts by either lending own subject matter expertise or suggesting reviewers where content of manuscript lies outside collective expertise of Board members. Editorial board members are appointed by the Governing Council President for a three-year term, with reappointment possible.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review and provide comment on book proposals submitted by potential authors
  • Assist the Acquisitions Editor in identification and recruitment of potential authors and book topics
  • Contribute or recommend subject matter expertise to the review of submitted manuscripts, helping ensure the appropriate depth of coverage and diversity of voices and/or source material
  • Participate in regular virtual meetings of the Editorial Board
  • Promote the output of ÀÖ²©´«Ã½Books to prospective authors and readers
  • Possibility of service on Publications Committee

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Maintain ÀÖ²©´«Ã½membership during term of appointment to Editorial Board
  • Capacity to work collegially with potential authors, other editorial board members, and ÀÖ²©´«Ã½staff
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Scholarly writing and editorial experience (e.g., service on editorial board, peer reviewer for a scholarly publication, publication by a scholarly press, professional editorial experience)

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Elementary understanding of book publishing process
  • Background of involvement or engagement with ACA, including its committees, Annual Conferences, programs, or other activities
