Alexandria, Va. (June 30, 2026) — The �ֲ���ý (ACA) announced its new board of directors for fiscal year 2027. Terms for the new officers and directors-at-large begin on July 1, 2026 and end on June 30, 2027.

Victoria Kress, PhD, LPCC-S, NCC, director of the clinical mental health and addictions counseling programs at Youngstown State University, was elected president. She takes over the role previously held by Elsa Soto Leggett, PhD, LPC-S, RPT-S, who will now serve as immediate past president.

“I am deeply honored to serve as the 75th President of the �ֲ���ý during one of the most significant periods of change in the association’s history,” said Kress. “As �ֲ���ýimplements a major governance restructuring that reduces the size of the Board of Directors by nearly half and welcomes a new CEO, we have an extraordinary opportunity to become more agile, responsive and effective in serving our members and advancing the counseling profession.

“My presidential initiatives will focus on two areas,” continued Kress. “First, I hope to elevate awareness of childism and adultism and their impact on children, families, schools and communities. Counselors have long been leaders in addressing oppression and advocating for vulnerable populations, and I believe we have an important role to play in examining the ways children’s voices, rights and experiences are often overlooked.

“Second, I want to help counselors strengthen their legislative advocacy skills. At a time when decisions made by policymakers increasingly affect mental health, education, healthcare access, and the counseling profession itself, counselors must be prepared to engage effectively in advocacy efforts at the local, state and national levels.”

Other newly elected officers include: John Curtis Nance, PhD, LCMHC-S, NCC, president-elect; Cassie Storlie, PhD, LPCC-S, NCC, RN, treasurer; and Marcia McCall, PhD, MBA, LCMHC, NCC, treasurer-elect.

In addition, the following members were elected to serve as directors-at-large:
